Agasthya mountain is also intended as Agasthyakoodam and is located about 70 km from the capital Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala state in India. It is located at a height of 1868 meters (6129 feet) above sea level. Peak is the second highest peak in Kerala, South India. Agasthyakoodam peak is in the form of a sharp cone and the sky is rare herbs and medicinal plants. Valuable and rare herb called "Arogyapacha" (plant and eternal salvation), developed the modern researchers of this hill. Agastyakoodam is the source of the perennial river Thamiarabarni. River flows in Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu. Peppara wildlife sanctuary, is part of the Earth Forest Agastyakoodam Thiruvananthapuram.

The dam was built on Peppara Karamana River in 1984. The main purpose of the dam to provide water supply to Thiruvananthapuram city and suburbs. Agastyakoodam is highly respected by Hindus and Buddhists. This is because the Hindus believe that this mountain is home to "Agastya" as the Wise transitelerated Agathiar or Agastyar. It is somehow regarded as the patron saint of much of southern India. Some say he was "Agastya" Wise, who first popularized the Vedic religion and of South India. Agastya is regarded as one of the seven Rishis (Saptarshi) of the Hindu 'Puranas. Buddhists believe that Agastya Mountain is home to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
