Idukki dam


Idukki dam is in Kerala, India, currently has  the largest arch dam in Asia, and 555 meters. The dam is located on the two mountains - Kuravanmala (839 meters) and Kurathimala (925 feet). E 'was built and is owned by Kerala State Electricity Board.

It is built on the Periyar river in the ravine between Kuravan and Kurath Hills in Kerala, India. At 167.68 meters, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia. It began producing power on October 4, 1975.  Technically, the type of dam is a concrete double curvature parabolic, thin arc dam.
This dam was constructed with two other dams on Cheruthony and Kulamavu. Together, the three dams created an artificial lake which is 60 km ². The stored water is used to generate electricity at home Moolamattom Power, which is housed in caves nearby. The Canadian government has supported the construction of the dam of long-term loans and grants.
