Chennai

Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and is located on the coast Bay of Bengal Coromondal. Chennai is the fourth most populous metropolitan area and the fifth most populous city in India. Chennai's population is 4.34 million (Census 2001). The city is governed by the Corporation of Chennai, composed of a mayor and council members.

Chennai has a rich historical heritage that is suitable for inexplicable charm of the city.

The Portuguese arrived here in the 16th century and was followed by the Dutch East India Company. The British managed to establish their undisputed supremacy in the city and the Fort St George became the nucleus around which British rule has grown and expanded.

The booming economy of the city is attributed to its key industries - automobile, software services, equipment manufacturers, petrochemicals, textiles and financial services.
