Kuttanad, rice bowl of Kerala is a farming community together to reach an agreement, in harmony with its natural environment. Land known for its farming below sea level (about 4 to 10 feet) of Kuttanad possesses a socio-cultural structure of its own. Four major rivers in Kerala either. History  Of  Kuttanad
No history of the origin of this land. However, the oral history of local people, transmitted from generation to generation is a mixture of myth and legend. Kuttanad is referred to in the epic Mahabharata of ancient India. During his exile, the Pandavas five lords have traveled through this land. In those days, Kuttanad was part of a dense forest, later destroyed by a wildfire that is also mentioned in the epic. Thus came the name Chuttanad local or area burned. Over time it became Chuttanad Kuttanad. You can still see kari or coal, if we dig deep in the soil of Kuttanad, highlighting the fact that the place was once a forest destroyed by a wildfire. Kuttanad in most of the names out at the end of Kari. Some place names are familiar Ramankary, Puthukkary, Oorukkary, Mitrakkary, Mampuzhakkary, and Chennamkari Kainakari Chathurthiakary.. Kuttanad is also said that was once under the sea.
